God is still speaking
By putting LOVE IN ACTION we help those in need through a variety of outreach missions.
Arizona Adoption and Foster Care is a partner agency that works to find loving, healing, temporay, and sometimes, permanent homes for children that are victims of neglect or abuse. The agency trains foster and adoptive parents, places children that have been removed from their homes, and provides support services to foster and adoptive parents. Desert Palm has worked with the agency for several years to supplement the agency by providing Christmas presents for the children, clothing, and school supplies. It is also grateful for gifts of new or used infant and toddler equipment (car seats, high chairs, cribs, etc.)
United Blood Bank – members of our congregation regularly support our United Blood Bank by donating at when the Blood Mobile visits our church or at their local office.
CROP Hunger Walk – members of local churches walk together each year to take a stand against hunger in our world. Together we raise awareness and funds for international relief and development, as well as local hunger-fighting.
Empty Bowls – Tempe’s Empty Bowls Event is a community-based effort, initiated and coordinated by a dedicated interfaith volunteer group. Each year, area students and artists create ceramic bowls that maybe purchased at the event, with a simple meal of soup, bread and water. The bowls are symbolic reminder that there are too many empty bowls in the world. Proceeds benefith the United Food Bank and Tempe Community Action Agency.
Fair Trade Coffee – we offer free trade coffee from Just Coffee to our members to support this important movement.
Humane Borders is headquartered in Tucson and has 8,000 volunteers from faith organizations throughout Arizona. It provides water stations for immigrants who are crossing the Arizona desert. Desert Palm has been assisting in water runs several times a year. In order to do this we need at least a driver and 2 or 3 volunteers for each run. Volunteers check the water tanks and fill them if necessary. Sometimes minor repairs are needed, but the Humane Borders truck has all supplies needed. The truck is stationed in Ajo, and the water tanks are located in Organ Pipe National Monument and north.
I-HELP – Tempe’s Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program (I-Help) provides homeless people with hope and opportunity for a better future by offering shelter, meals and connections to community services. Each month we open our doors and provide shelter, a home cooked dinner and breakfast to homeless people in our community who need a hand.
KnitWits – this creative and talented group of members create lap blankets for children in our community.
Paz de Cristo – members of our congregation volunteer their time and talents to prepare meals at Paz de Cristo twice each month for the needy in our community.
Desert Palm has been strengthened by its struggles to act within the spirit of our faith against the prejudices and injustices that occur in society today.
We have extended our spiritual horizons, opened our doors to welcome all who seek a church home, and put the Good News message we preach into practice. The members of Desert Palm Church covenant to live as an Open and Affirming congregation.
We seek to break down the barriers of separation between communities based on race, gender, age, socio-economic class, sexual orientation, culture, language and other physical or social differences.
